Sober Living as it applies to Lake Shore Lodge is a home for men who are in recovery and for one reason or another prefer to live with other people who are also in recovery. Recovery in this case is from alcoholism and/or drug addictions.
The difference between a Sober Living house and a Halfway house, or long term recovery house, is that there are no counselors or treatment programs at the house itself in which the tenants are required to participate. Sober Living is for those who are far enough along in their programs that they can basically live on their own.
The reasons for living in a Sober Living home are many. Those just getting out of a halfway house may find the prospect of living in a one-room apartment by themselves still a bit daunting. Some may have already moved into an apartment and now find that living alone is not working out for them. Others may be new to the area and want a place to live while they seek out a permanent home or apartment in the area. Some people choose to live in sober living homes after a seperation or divorce.
The sobriety requirement for Lake Shore Lodge is at least 30 days, but there is no ceiling on that sobriety time. There are those who take advantage of sober living homes who have many years of sobriety.
Sober Living is simply a place where a group of people can live together with the common purpose of staying sober and practice the principles set down by the 12 step programs of AA and NA.
